GENERATIONS
OPENING: May 17, 18H-21H
May 17 – June 25, 2012
Tuesday - Friday 10:00 - 15:00 Saturday 13:00 - 17:00
The GENERATIONS artists are not selected by a thematic aim, but have a shared lineage. Many of the artists have taught in and have been taught at the leading art schools in Britain. Some have been directly tutored by others, while some of the artists have had influence over several generations of painting in Britain.
‘…there is a conversation between these artists, they communicate in many ways, sometimes through their work and sometimes by knowledge, enthusiasm and attitude…..’ (Brendan Neiland in conversation with Joanna Foster)
The selection spans from Peter Blake and John Walker to younger artists like Matthew Burrows and Simon Burton.
By bringing this group together it is hoped that we can involve ourselves as viewers, in the shared language and dialogues that these artists have.
It is apparent that all of these artists love painting and are deeply involved in the historical, while also wanting to extend painting language into a contemporary dialect for themselves and future generations.
